Marty Jannetty began his wrestling career in 1984 wrestling in the NWA Central States division. He wrestled in singles as well as tag team competition with various partners, including Tommy Rogers as the Uptown Boys, until joining forces with Shawn Michaels in late 1985. Together they formed The Midnight Rockers . In 1986, the two left the NWA for the AWA (American Wrestling Association) and built a reputation as a talented tag team, performing many amazing acrobatic moves in tandem, and electrifying crowds with their amazing aerial maneuvers Their long running feud with Playboy Buddy Rose and Pretty Boy Doug Somers is legendary, and, quite often matches between the two teams would end in a bloody brawl. One January 27, 1987, The Midnight Rockers realized their dream and won the AWA Word Tag Team Titles from Rose and Somers. They would hold those title twice, staying in the league for a little over the year before jumping to the World Wrestling Federation in 1988
